Inclement Weather/Emergency opening or closing:
During inclement weather or any emergency, Kinder Explorers follows Prince George’s County Public Schools opening or closing announcements. Parents will be notified for late opening and early pick up if the conditions warrant. The Center will follow the PRINCE GEORGE’S PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEM’S emergency plan. If the Public-School System opens late due to emergency circumstances or inclement weather, the Center will open late also (ex. if public schools open 2 hrs. late, Kinder Explorers will open at 9 am, etc.). If the Public-School System closes early, the Center will close early & remain open until the last child is picked up by parents. The Center does ask that parents decide to have children picked up early during dangerous conditions. If the Public School System is closed for the day, the Center will be closed for the day also. On days that the Public School System is already scheduled to be closed, but Kinder Explorers is scheduled to be open, parents must be alerted to follow an alternative plan should emergency circumstances arise. Listen for announcements at WTOP 103.5 FM or FOX WTTG Channel 5 and on the web at www.wtopnews.com. You may also call the center to hear if the recording says that we are closed. Parents are still responsible for TUITION for any days the center is closed during inclement weather, emergency circumstances, and holidays.
Late Arrival, Late Pickup from the Center
Please notify the Center by phone (301-306-9333, 301-661-4858) for any of the following if you anticipate being late to pick up your child or if your child will be arriving late (after 9 am) or absent for the day. We know that parents make every attempt to arrive on time at the end of the day for pick up. However, if there is any reason that may delay parents/emergency contact person from picking up a child by 6:30 p.m., a late fee charge will/must be paid to the staff that remains with the child after the center is closed. The late fee charge is $1.00/minute, which must be paid that evening or the following morning.
The Center Staff will notify State authorities for any child left on the premises after 7:00 p.m. unless the Center has been notified that arrangements have been made for the child to be picked up promptly. A report of “an abandoned child” will be made to Protective Services of the Department of Social Services. The child will be placed in their protective custody.
Updating Contact Information
All contact information such as phone numbers and addresses regarding your child (parents, guardians, and emergency contact person) must be kept current. This is vital to your child’s safety. Please keep the Center informed whenever there is a change as soon as possible. Emergency information forms must be updated and initialed by parents annually.
